Building More Efficient Financial Operations
As part of its broader commitment to innovation and operational excellence, Werner set out to modernize its financial operations with a clear goal: drive greater efficiency, boost financial performance and enhance the carrier experience. However, legacy processes and systems created operational friction, requiring manual review and approval of all carrier-submitted documents and invoices.
This heavy reliance on manual workflows strained carrier facing teams, slowed payment cycles and limited the ability to scale. To address these challenges, Werner worked with Mastery to automate financial processes using MasterMind’s configurable workflows, exception handling and voucher processing. These capabilities enabled seamless integrations with both TriumphPay Audit and TriumphPay Payments, establishing an efficient and scalable operation, aligned with Werner’s broader migration to Workday.
Breaking Free from Manual Processes
Werner’s financial operations were supported by a custom, on-premise document imaging solution that had served the business for years. As the organization continued to grow, the manual processes tied to document review, carrier communication and payment approvals became increasingly resource intensive.
Improving internal efficiency was a key focus for Werner, along with enhancing the experience for the carriers interacting with their team. Interactions with carriers were fragmented and high touch, requiring carriers to call in directly to receive some of their payment status and financial updates. These challenges made it clear – a more scalable and automated approach was needed to support Werner’s long-term operational goals.
Enabling Long-Term Financial Efficiency and Control
To support its financial transformation, Werner implemented MasterMind’s invoice and voucher processing along with accounting queues. Exception workflows automatically escalate noncompliant items, ensuring carrier documents, commodity details and reference data are attached to each load, allowing users to focus on exceptions. This significantly reduced manual touchpoints while preserving critical financial controls through MasterMind.
As part of this implementation, MasterMind’s open architecture enabled a direct integration with TriumphPay. This provided real time payment visibility to carriers and eliminated the need for Werner teams to manage sensitive banking data directly, reducing operational burden and improving the overall carrier experience.
Throughout the project, Mastery worked closely with Werner’s accounting and operational teams to guide change management, provide hands-on training, and ensure a smooth transition to the new workflows. This rollout represents a foundational step in Werner’s broader initiative to modernize its financial systems and processes.
